AREAS OF INTEREST
Mark's consultancy work spans human resource management including interim roles as a Director of HR, workforce and organisational development and coaching.

RECENT CAREER HISTORY
Mark joined the NHS as a national management trainee in the 1980s and worked in general management and HR roles in acute and community NHS settings. His last substantive role in the NHS was Director of HR and Corporate Affairs in a large, merged acute NHS Trust. Mark has worked as a consultant in Dearden Consulting since 2002 and is Managing Director of the company.

CONSULTANCY EXPERIENCE
Mark's current and recent consultancy work includes:

• Working as an Interim Director of HR for a number of organisations including a large Teaching Hospital, a London Foundation Trust, PCTs and specialist mental health and learning disabilities Trusts, with assignments ranging from four months to two years.
 
• Undertaking reviews of HR capacity and capability in NHS organisations and Local Authorities.

• Developing cultures of high performance within organisations, focusing on talent management and developing systems, process and attitudes to deal effectively with poor performance.

• Coaching senior executives in the NHS including Chief Executives, Directors, managers and senior clinical staff. Mark has coached on national public health leadership programmes, and has worked as an accredited coach with the Department of Health, Centre for Health Leadership Wales, the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement and the Northern Ireland Health Management Centre. He is also approved to use the NHS Leadership Qualities Framework and 360-degree appraisal tool. Mark has run in excess of 260 individual coaching sessions with Chief Executives, Executive Directors and aspiring directors over the last 5 years.
 
• Providing large scale leadership development programmes including the current 18-month London-wide Leadership Development programme for Allied Health Professionals.

Mark is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and has a postgraduate diploma in personnel management (distinction). With primary degrees from both the UK and the United States, Mark also has an MBA from Henley Management College, an Advanced Diploma in Management Consultancy and a Certificate in Advanced Professional Practice in Senior Executive Coaching and Mentoring. Mark is an MBTI Step one and Step two accredited practitioner.

Mark lives in Henham in rural North Essex with his partner Gill, and children, Tom, Fi and Jess and is a keen rugby supporter (his days of playing are now over!). He is a PADI-qualified scuba diver and enjoys combining his pleasure for travelling with diving.
