AREAS OF INTEREST
Peter's consultancy practice covers all aspects of organisational development, but he has a particular interest in service redesign, strategy development, team building and coaching.
CAREER HISTORY
Peter was one of the founders of Deardens in 1989. For the previous four years he had been National Director of Management Development for the NHS, leading significant change at the National level at the time of the introduction of General Management into the Service. Peter was an operational manager in the NHS from 1968 to 1985, holding a range of senior and Board level positions. His first career was as a ships navigator in the British Merchant Navy.
CONSULTANCY EXPERIENCE
During his 20 years experience as an organisational development consultant, Peter has worked constantly at the cutting edge of change in the NHS and with its partner organisations.
He has considerable international experience, having lead or contributed to health related projects in every continent, on behalf of the WHO, World Bank, European Union, and UK Department for International Development (DFID). Peter has also worked with four UK health economies to explore the potential for applying the Kaiser Permanente model of integrated health care within the NHS.
Recent assignments have included:
• Working with managers and clinicians across organisational boundaries to agree new Service Models in ENT, OMFS, Vascular Services, and Orthopaedics, and to agree new governance arrangements
• Designing and facilitating a major review for WHO, involving all of the WHO Regions around the world, to identify future strategic directions for Primary Health Care
• Supporting the Executive Team of a Sector Skills Council as it lead rapid growth and expansion of its activities
• Working with a PCT Executive Team to anticipate new approaches to commissioning in the context of an integrated service delivery model.
• Peter also works regularly with Dearden colleagues to deliver assessment and development centres.
